Victorian junior teams for Perth announced

Alizza Hetherington and Jasper Stubbs
Victoria's 2018 junior state team captains Alizza Hetherington and Jasper Stubbs.

Jasper Stubbs and Alizza Hetherington will captain Victoria’s Boys’ & Girls’ Junior Interstate Series teams as the state’s top twelve juniors head to Western Australia in April.

The two teams of six will tee it up in the 2018 Australian Boys' & Girls’ Amateur Championships at Gosnells Golf Club and Royal Perth Golf Club respectively from April 11-13, before teaming up for the Interstate Series matches the following week.

The girls’ team has a day’s break before returning to Royal Perth from April 15-17, while the boys will move to Hartfield Golf Club in Perth’s east from April 16-19.

For the girls, Royal Melbourne GC’s Hetherington is one of three 17-year-olds selected, alongside 2017 Girls’ and Womens’ representative Linley Ooi and Cranbourne GC’s Ashleigh Hall.

Making their Victorian debuts along with Hall are Kay Bannan from Southern GC and Commonwealth GC’s Sheradyn Johnson.

The youngest member of the 2018 girls’ side is Piper Stubbs, the 14-year-old’s debut for Victoria making it an extra special week for the Stubbs family as her older brother captains the boys’ team.

After debuting in Wollongong in 2017, Jasper Stubbs is the only player to return from last year’s outfit, with 17-year-old Harry Goakes from Royal Melbourne the oldest of the boys heading to Perth.

Commonwealth GC’s Daniel Gill and fellow 16-year-old Phoenix Campbell from Huntingdale will tee it up for Victoria for the first time, along with 15-year-old James Walker from Wodonga.

Young gun Nathan Page from The National is the youngest player in either squad at the age of 14.

Darren Cole, VIS assistant coach, will again coach the girls' team and the team manager will be Jo Charlton.

The junior boys' coach is David Capaldo, professional at Peninsula Kingswood Country Golf Club, and the team manager will be Ashley Marshall.

The teams have been selected after monitoring scoring from local, state and national competitions by the Golf Victoria State Selection Panel.

Golf Victoria would like to acknowledge Acushnet (Titleist/Footjoy) for their ongoing support of the Victorian Junior State Teams and High-Performance program.
