Victoria GC dominates at Club Teams

2016 Club Teams Winners

A field of eager junior golfers assembled this morning at The National Golf Club at Long Island in chase for this year’s Stuart Appleby Club Teams title. Play the event uses a par format, with the aggregate of the 3 best scores from the team of 4 players making up the overall team score.

The weather was simply perfect for golf, the sun was shining and not a breath of wind to mention.   It was deja vu to last year’s event as Victoria took home the title once again with a team tally of +5. Angelique Brandt lead from the front today with a stellar individual round of +5 and was backed up Naya Patel who signed for +1. Ashni Solanki and Courtney Henderson also had solid rounds for the victorious team.

Not only did Victoria take home top honours, but they did so on a count-back from another Victoria team comprising of Kayli Schenk, Ally Kerr, Sayumi De Costa and Kathleen Newham who also finished on +5.

This is now the sixth Club Teams Championship Victoria has won since the inaugural year.

After only capturing the Junior Pennant title yesterday, Yarra Yarra continued their good form and took third place after edging out Latrobe on a count-back when the teams tied on +4.

20 teams from across Victoria were represented in the event today who ranged in handicap from scratch to mid 30’s. All players enjoyed the National Golf Club layout at Long Island and we thank the host club for preparing the course in such great condition.
