Strong start by Aussies at wet APGC Junior

Asia-Pacific Junior Championship 2017
Kay Bannan, Grace Kim, Jed Morgan and Nathan Page

Weather was the major player during round one of the Asia-Pacific Junior Championship in Hong Kong yesterday.

Two typhoons over the course of the last week have meant no practice rounds and widespread damage to the Hong Kong Golf Club layout. Event day was the first time the players had been able to get out on course and even then a one-hour storm delay meant not all groups could finish play.

Thankfully Australia's two teams were first and third out and able complete their rounds.

Grace Kim from NSW and defending boys' champion Jed Morgan of Queensland played well for 5-under which included three birdies from each and an eagle from Kim.

Victorians Kay Bannan and Nathan Page started slowly, understandable given they hadn’t seen the course, but combined better and better as the day went by to finish at a very respectable 4-over after being 5-over at the turn.

Korea lead at 7-under.

Both teams are enjoying the experience and getting on well. South Australian coach Sarah King is doing a great job.
