Stanford & Brown victorious at Sorrento

2016 Sorrento Winners
L-R: Mark Stanford (The National) & Lindsay Brown (Woodlands)

Mark Stanford of The National has taken out the final senior event of the 2016 calendar year at Sorrento Golf Club.

Stanford carded rounds of 75 and 73 to win the title by 2 shots from Gordon Claney of Kingston Heath. Conditions were again challenging for the field, with strong winds adding to the complexity of the undulating slopes and slick greens of the par 70 layout.

The nett title was won by Lindsay Brown of Woodlands. The 15 marker returned a nett total of 148 which included an impressive nett 66 today to win on a second round count-back from Ignatius Duivenvoorden of Yarram.

The Sorrento Senior Amateur is also the home of the Victorian Senior Club Team’s Championship, whereby teams of three players from a nominated club have their aggregate gross and nett totals for the two-rounds put towards a team score.

The gross title was claimed by the Kew #2 team of Mark Brasher, Pancho DeNeefe and Stephen Valentine combining well for a team total 468 and taking home the perpetual cup. A back nine count-back was required to determine the winner between Kew #2 and the runner-up team of Guy Krall, Mark Limon and John Wheeler from The National.

Team Bendigo consisting of Stan Davis, Ian Doak and Barry Miles took out the nett teams title on a combined score of 447. The trio finished 10 shots clear of 2015 champions Kerry Boehm, Brian Gray and Tony Hyde of Patterson River.

Big thank you to all players that have participated in events throughout 2016. The next event and first in the new year will be the Keysborough Senior Amateur on Monday 9 January.
