Olsen & Pascoe out in front at Eureka

Eureka Ballarat

Round 1 of the Eureka Senior Amateur kicked off today at Ballarat Golf Club. A field of 86 players took to the redesigned Thomson Perret course today in drizzly conditions and  contrary to the forecast the weather cleared up to a pleasantly sunny afternoon.

Hot off a record-breaking win at The National Senior Masters last week, Kym Olsen is leading the charge with a blistering 6 under par today. Olsen carded a 66 today to be 4 shots ahead of Buninyong member Chris Tatt who will be looking to make the most of his home ground knowledge tomorrow to chase down the leader.

In the nett section it is Geoffrey Knight with the best score in today on a nett 67. The Kingston Heath member is a mere shot ahead of trio Paul Williams (Kew), John Hoare (Pakenham) and Leigh Gow (Buninyong) all tied on nett 68.

Helen Pascoe will go onto home soil tomorrow at Buninyong with a 9 shot lead in the gross women’s section after posting a solid round of 33 gross points. Next best was Trafalgar’s June Tickell on 24 points followed by Bev Smith of Hepburn Springs on 23 points.

Tied with Pascoe in the lead in the women’s nett section are Carmel Claney (Kingston Heath) and Pat Egan (Clifton Springs). The trio all posted scores of 34 stableford points to be leading by 2 points from four players tied on 32 points.

The second and final round moves across to Buninyong tomorrow for an 8:30am start.
