Marc Leishman’s disappointment at his performance in the Open Championship has been assuaged by a lucrative week at the Fedex St Jude Classic at TPC Southwind in Memphis.

Leishman played a superb final-round 67 to finish third behind Brooks Koepka, the world No. 1, and picked up $US600,000 in prizemoney, a week after missing the cut at Royal Portrush.

The Victorian is projected to leap a few spots to No 11 in the Fedex Cup rankings, which puts him in prime position as the playoffs loom.

There is one regular-season tournament remaining for the players to jockey for positions.

Leishman, who won the CIMB Classic in South Korea last October, has been in a lull recently but still has clocked up almost $US4 million in prizemoney this season.

The day was billed as a heavyweight duel between Koepka and McIlroy but it was a fizzer.

The Northern Irishman fell away in the final round with a one-over par 71 to finish tied-fourth. Meanwhile Koepka made three early birdies and ran away with the prize, closing with a 65 to win by three shots. Ironically it is just his third US tour win outside of a major.

Of the other Aussies in the field for the $US 10.25 million event, Cameron Smith closed with a 68 to finish tied-12th. Adam Scott and Jason Day were tied-40th.

Meanwhile in the Senior Open at Royal Lytham and St Annes, Australian professional David McKenzie finished fifth. The Open was won for the fourth time by Germany's Bernhard Langer.
