Golf Australia

Huge boost for senior golf

Ageing in golf
Golf is the game for life.

As Golf and Health Week continues, highlighting golf as a game for life has never been more relevant.

Golf Australia is delighted to announce the receipt of a $500,000 grant from Sport Australia to roll out the Get Into Golf for Seniors program across Australia.

Get Into Golf for Seniors will seek to increase physical activity and social connectedness among older Australians through a program that combines golf skill development with light exercises and social activities.

In conjunction with delivery partner Aveo – Australia’s largest operator of lifestyle communities – Golf Australia will deliver programs to more than 9000 older Australians at 150 locations across the country in all states and territories.

The Get Into Golf for Seniors program will educate older Australians about the benefits of increased physical activity and seek to develop links between older Australians and their local golf club.

Golf clubs act as community hubs across the length and breadth of Australia, and Golf Australia believes that golf – as it has for more than 100 years – will continue to be a key deliverer of both physical and mental health benefits for older Australians into the future.

Golf is Australia’s second largest organised participation sport and is truly a game for life, with opportunities to participate for participants aged five years old to 85.

Through the Better Ageing grant, Golf Australia is proud to partner with Sport Australia to continue to deliver a healthier and more active Australia.

Further program information will be available from early July at www.golf.org.au, but for now, check in with all our other stories this week as part of the R&A's Golf and Health Week.
