Jason Day will have a new look at this week’s US Open at Pebble Beach, with Steve Williams on his bag for the first time.

The Australian has decided to team up with Tiger Woods’ former caddie after a period in which he has used old friends Luke Reardon and Rika Batibasaga on his bag, having had his coach Col Swatton on the bag for many years before that.

“It was a team decision to bring in Steve and I think it's a really good one," Swatton told Australian Associated Press’ Evin Priest today.

"Steve is probably the most prolific caddie golf has seen in helping a player win at the highest level; he has caddied for three world No.1 players. We believe it's a decision that can only help Jason in his quest to get back to No.1."

It’s not clear whether Williams, who caddied for 13 of Tiger Woods’ majors, is making a permanent comeback to looping. The New Zealander also previously caddied for Adam Scott, and farther back, for Greg Norman.

Day is one of eight Australians in the field at Pebble Beach this week.

To describe famed Pebble Beach as a links course is something of a misnomer. Read more
