The finalists for the Victorian Women’s Country Championships have been decided today at Cobram Barooga Golf Club.

The top 8 qualifiers from the 36-hole stroke play rounds on Tuesday and Wednesday teed it up on the Old course for the first knock-out match play round this morning. Through the turn, matches were up to Jane Wall (3 up vs Deborah Rix), Casey Wild (3 up vs Steffi Vogel), Jade Shellback (4 up vs Johanna Wyllie) and Jessica Pickwick (3 up vs Helen Pascoe). All four players maintained their halfway lead to win their matches 1 up (Wall), 3 and 2 (Wild) and 5 and 4 (both Shellback and Pickwick).

After a short break for lunch players were back out for the semi-finals this afternoon. Top seed Jessica Pickwick of Kilmore faced The National’s Jade Shellback, while Casey Wild (Wodonga) was up against Jane Wall (Barham). Both matches were tight through the turn with Wile and Wall all square and Shellback marginally ahead at 1 up over Pickwick. Steady play by Wild on the back nine results in a 4 and 3 victory over Wall, while Pickwick clawed back for a 2 and 1 win over Shellback.

The final between Jess Pickwick and Casey Wild will commence at 8am on the Old Course tomorrow morning as the pair go head to head for the Championship title.
