2019 Aust junior titles heads to Qld

Southport Golf Club

The Australian Boys’ and Girls’ Amateur Championships and Interstate Teams Matches will return to Queensland in April 2019 for the first time since 2012.

The Australian Girls’ Amateur will be played on the River course at Coolangatta & Tweed Heads Golf Club, April 10-12. The teams will then move inland to the home of the Queensland PGA championship, City Golf Club in Toowoomba for the Interstate Teams Matches April 15-17. Both clubs will be hosting the respective events for the first time in the club’s history.

The challenging layout of Coolangatta & Tweed Heads will be sure to test some of Australia’s and the world’s best young golfers, all hoping to add their name to the trophy next to the likes of Jan Stephenson, Minjee Lee, Su Oh and defending champion Maddison Hinson- Tolchard.

The Queensland girls will be looking to win their first title since 2014 and have a good history of winning on home turf after claiming the 2012 and 2008 title that were both played in Queensland.

Further north of Coolangatta & Tweed Heads, the boys will be contesting the amateur championship at Southport Golf Club, who will also be staging the championship for the first time. Past champions include Queenslanders Adam Scott, Jason Day and Cameron Smith. The Championship will be played from April 10-12.

The Boys Interstate matches will be played at Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club (Palms course). The Queensland boys will be hoping they can defend their title on home soil after taking out the title last year at Hartfield Golf Club in Western Australia.

Both the Australian Boys’ and Girls’ Amateur Championships are played over 72-holes stroke play. With the winners receiving exemptions into the Emirates Australian Open and the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open, they are championships eagerly contested.
