Minjee Lee and Hannah Green are both in contention at the LPGA's rich CME Championship in Florida.

Four Australians made their way into the 72-player field for the tour championship, worth $US3 million, and the Perth superstars were at the forefront.

Lee had six birdies in her opening 68, and at four under par, she is tied-sixth, three shots from the lead. She would dearly love to add an American win to the Dubai triumph she clinched recently in another ultra-consistent year.

Green had four birdies on her way to a three under par 69 and is tied-12th.

The other Australians, Katherine Kirk and Sarah Kemp, both opened with even-par 72s today at Tiburon club near Orlando.

American Lexi Thompson leads at 65 despite playing with her hands bandaged, the result of fanatical recent practice sessions.

"I hit balls until my hands started bleeding,” Thompson said. “I had blisters and they started to bleed. I'm like, ‘Okay, maybe I should stop'."
