The Lucindale Country Club boasts a picturesque 18-hole course with watered fairways and greens.

The well wooded course has bunkers at many greens and water hazards and is proudly maintained with thoughtful use of light rough beside some greens instead of sand.

With great excitement in 2019 (23 - 25 July) the Country Club will be hosting the Bronze Salver division (Hcps GA 16.1-21.4) of the 75th running of SA Women’s Country Week.

Around 100 players will descend upon the small town located in the south-east region of South Australia to compete over three days with the 36-hole stroke event held over the opening two days, followed by Thursday’s foursomes.

“We are a small but very active club and are especially proud of our beautiful course, we can’t wait to host the plate next year” said club representative Julie Wilks.

But it’s not necessarily the layout which will be the most impressive to the players, rather 18 quirky sculptures positioned around the course.

Looking for a point of difference for the club, Wilks has been the major driver behind the artworks project, with steel cutouts of native birds, reptiles and mammals finding homes around the golf course.

There is also additional wildlife sitting in branches, gardens and tree stumps adding to the course aesthetics.

“We are very lucky that we have so many great courses here in the S/E but I just wanted to do something different here at Lucindale,” Wilks said when interviewed by the Naracoorte Herald earlier this year.

“We often have red-tailed black cockatoo sightings at the country club and I guess that’s where the rustic artwork idea stemmed from.”

Julie has combined the steel cutouts of animals including frill-necked lizards, crows, blue wrens and kangaroos with cleverly selected pieces of timber which are positioned all around the course for people to enjoy.

Small garden beds have also been created around the rustic artworks, which are maintained meticulous by Lucindale members.

“Members have been rapt with the results - I’ve had lots of fantastic feedback, which is great,” Julie said.
