Facility Management & Strategy

Facility management includes the daily management of the golf and hospitality functions as well as the maintenance and upgrading of the course and clubhouse.

The success of this management is determined by the skills and experience of the people who run them (aided by policies and procedures), the way the board and committees work together (governance) and the funds that exist to upgrade club infrastructure and equipment.

In 2019, Golf Australia is developing a National Golf Facilities Strategy.  The strategy will look at golf venue sustainability and require golf facilities audit and mapping, new facility planning, identification of facilities under threat and alignment with local government facility planning.

To thrive in future golf facilities will become more engaged with seeking grant funding through federal, state and local government as other sports do.  To do this, golf needs to be outward facing, providing evidence (audit) and engage in planning, participation and partnerships with key stakeholders.  As a local government executive advised a facilities strategy workshop in December 2018, relationship building is the most important element.  (that and evidence based data!).

Sport Australia Infrastructure Grants in round one (late 2018) provided well over half a million dollars to golf club and facilities.  News of round two funding will be available in the first quarter of 2019.

Updates will be available in coming months.
