Australian golfer Mark Hensby has fallen foul of the United States PGA Tour’s drug policy, suspended for a year for failing to provide a drug-testing sample.

The 46-year-old Hensby, from New South Wales, is not eligible to play until October next year. He is the fourth tour player to be suspended under the drug code since the tour, falling into line with the WADA code as part of golf’s move back into the Olympic Games, began announcing its suspensions for violations a year ago.

A tour statement read: "The PGA TOUR announced today that Mark Hensby has violated the TOUR Anti-Doping Policy for failing to provide a drug testing sample after notification and has been suspended for a period of one year. He will be eligible to return on Oct. 26, 2018."

Hensby is a one-time winner of the main US Tour but spent most of this year playing on the Tour.

Previously, the tour kept any drug suspensions confidential.

Hensby has not made any public comment as yet.
