Australian golfers living with disability are now on the world stage thanks to an agreement between the European Disabled Golf Association and Golf Australia.

The agreement has meant Australian golfers have been added to the EDGA Rankings For Golfers with Disability (R4GD) overnight through the first of several GA and EDGA approved tournaments.

The rankings are designed to pull all 22 member nations of the EDGA together and contribute towards the one ranking system, the largest for golfers with disability in the world.

GA chief executive Stephen Pitt was delighted that Australian golfers were contributing to the rankings.

“It is important to us as an organisation to build strong pathways for golfers with disability that lead to national representation and showcase Australian talent on the world stage,” Pitt said.

“The ranking system will also allow GA to maintain its own national rankings consistent with other member federations of EDGA.”

GA national inclusion manager Christian Hamilton said one of GA’s game development strategies is to work closely with national bodies such as Amputee Golf Australia and Blind Golf Australia to endorse events that also contribute to the rankings.

“We recognise state and national events run by disability associations as GA-approved events, allowing for more rounds to contribute to the rankings and hopefully lift participation through working closer with these associations – a great outcome for everyone,” Hamilton said.
