Your Cap Point is the best GA Handicap you have achieved during the 12-month period that preceded your most recent round. When your NEXT round is processed through GOLF Link, the GA Handicap that will be calculated for you will not be permitted to be more than 5 strokes above your current Cap Point.

GOLF Link determines the DSR (Daily Scratch Rating) for the group of players you played amongst by comparing the ACTUAL average Stableford score for your group with the average Stableford score the group was EXPECTED to have. Other important points:
  • The lower the average handicap for a group of players, the better its average score is expected to be.
  • GA’s statisticians have determined what the expected average Stableford score should be for each mix of players by analysing millions of prior rounds in the GOLF Link database.
  • In calculating the average Stableford score on the day, the scores from players with lower handicaps receive a higher weighting than the scores returned by players with higher handicaps.
  • You are not handicapped on your Stroke score for a Stroke round, you are handicapped on your Stableford score for that round. The DSR for Stroke rounds is also based on the average Stableford score for all players in the group.
  • Expected average Stableford scores for each handicap level can be viewed by clicking here.
  • Your club has the option of having separate DSRs for the morning and afternoon.
  • For very small fields, the Actual Average Stableford Score needs to vary from the Expected Average Stableford Score by a notable amount in order for the DSR to shift away from the Scratch Rating.
  • The ‘expectations’ vary slightly between genders – this takes account of their different score distribution patterns.

In Stroke or Stableford, the value in the ‘Adjusted Gross’ column is the player’s gross score adjusted to no more than 2 over net par for any hole.

In a Par event, the player’s result is converted by GOLF Link to a Stableford score by adding 36; the ‘Adjusted Gross’ value is then extracted from the converted Stableford score.

The 'Played To' result is determined by subtracting the number in the 'DSR' column (or the number in the 'Scratch Rating' column if the round wasn’t eligible to have a DSR determined for it) from the number in the 'Adjusted Gross' column.
The ‘Sloped Played To’ result is determined by dividing the number in the 'Played To' column by the Slope Rating of the tees from which the round was played and then multiplying by 113 (113 is the neutral Slope Rating). The purpose of the Slope calculation is to standardise your score – it enables us to properly compare a score made on an easy course with a score made on a hard course. Your GA Handicap is the average of the best 8 of your most recent 20 ‘Sloped Played To’ results multiplied by 0.93.
