The ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open is Golf Australia's National Open Women's Championship, and is sanctioned by the ALPG Tour, LPGA and LET. It is played over 72-holes stroke play, with non-exempt players eligible to attend Qualifying on the Monday prior to the event. A total of 156 players contest the event, and the amateur golfer's handicap limit is 2.4.
The Australian Ladies Open was originally founded in 1974 as a 54-hole event, but folded after 1978. It was resurrected in 1994 as the Women's Australian Open, as a 72-hole event. The Ladies European Tour began co-sanctioning the tournament in 2000. The event was not played in 2005 and 2006, but returned in 2007.
