Golf Australia

Environmental Statement

Golf Australia recognises that the quality of golf courses is fundamental to the enjoyment of golf, for players of all standards and the successful staging of amateur and professional golf events.

Golf course architects play a crucial role in designing stimulating and challenging golf courses. Golf course superintendents have the same responsibility for maintaining them to a high standard.

Golf Australia requires the adoption of best practices for golf course development and management. Golf Australia acknowledges the efforts of the professional superintendents and golf course architecture organisations, particularly the Australian Golf Course Superintendents Association and the Society of Australian Golf Course Architects.

Golf course maintenance and design has to consider its impact on the environment.

Golf Australia recognises that environmental issues will increasingly become more relevant to the success and well-being of the game. Golf Australia advocates that all golf clubs and golf facilities should be cognisant of their local environmental policies and cooperate with government, community and environmental organisations to ensure ongoing improvements in their environmental programmes.

Golf Australia recognises the work of those independent, not for profit bodies who support the golf sector’s environmental activities and continue to develop programmes that enable golf to demonstrate a credible response to environmental challenges and opportunities.

Golf Australia also supports and promotes the work of The R&A, which has produced extremely useful resources to promote environmentally sound and sustainable best practices for course management and development.
