Troy out to tame Twin Creeks

Troy Moses can’t wait for the NSW Open to get under way, after all, it’s in his backyard.

“I’ve lived here in Penrith all my life,” the 25-year-old said.

Moses is a member of Twin Creeks and these days uses the course as his practice base. He was excited when he heard the Open was coming to town and expects his local knowledge and the family and friends that will show up to support him will be an advantage.

“I’ve been playing there a fear bit to learn as much as I can since going,” Moses said.??“I’m a Dunheved boy through and through, so there will be plenty of supporters out there.”

“The course will be in great shape. It sets up well for a big event. They can tuck the pins and make it tough.”

Moses was introduced to the sport aged 14 at nearby Dunheved Golf Club, and after showing some promise, he became a member of the Golf NSW High-Performance Program, bagging a couple of big wins in a solid amateur career along the way.

In his rookie year on tour, Moses has found his feet and has posted a couple of encouraging results, including a 10th place finish just last month at the Isuzu Queensland Open. He said the step up in class to the pro ranks has meant working harder on his game than ever before.

“Taking on the pro ranks meant stepping up my game up another level. There are so many great players with some pretty successful careers out here. Guys that have played PGA tour before.”

“I’m treating every event as an opportunity, and I’m just trying to get better at every event,”

When asked about the one thing, in particular, that would give him an edge over the rest of the field this week, Moses smiled and said;

“It will just be nice to play a big tournament and still get to sleep in my own bed for a change.”
