Park get’s mum’s nod to play Adelaide

Min-ji Park

Newly minted Australian Amateur champion Min-ji Park has got the all-clear from her mother to contest next month’s ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open.

Park, 18, was spectacular in winning the #AusAm crown in her first foreign tournament as a member of the incredibly strong Korean national team.

The deceptively powerful right-hander tamed Metropolitan with an incredible 10 birdies in her 6&5 final win over compatriot Ayean Cho in their match that lasted just 31 holes.

Park afterwards said she’d love to play the Open, her victory prize, but would need to check with her mother at home to make sure it was OK.

And today, Park’s entry form, complete with motherly approval, was lodged to play at The Grange Golf Club in Adelaide from February 18-21.

While the field is yet to be finalised, Park is one of three amateurs locked in.

Australian junior champion Celina Yuan, of Sydney, also a semi-finalist at the Australian Amateur, will play her first national championship. And rising Japanese star Minori Iwasaki will compete after her recent win in the Aaron Baddeley International Junior Championship in the United States.
