The Vintage Golf Club's Dylan Perry has rocketed up the leader board after shooting a cool 4-under par round of 68 in the second round of the Australian Amateur Golf Championship at Metropolitan Golf Club in Victoria today.
Perry, from Muswellbrook in the Hunter, took advantage of the 'cooler' conditions in the morning at Metropolitan as the field endured heatwave conditions and strong northerly winds.
“It was 32 degrees by 10 am when we were out there. The wind picked up on the back nine and the final five holes were brutal,” Perry said.
His round included six birdies and two bogeys. Despite starting his second round with a bogey Perry got it right back with a birdie on his second hole, which acted as a catalyst for his impressive round in ther trying conditions.
“I was hitting it to all the rights spots on the fairway and I made some good putts today. That got my confidence rolling.”
Perry has had a run of good form in recent months, picking up the 2015 Golf NSW Country Championship in Wollongong last month, the second time he has taken the title in the last three years.
“The Country Championship gave me a lot of confidence for the summer. I feel ready.”
Perry is no stranger to the match play rounds of the Australian Amateur either, making it into the quarter finals in 2013, before losing to Victorian Geoff Drakeford.
“I got beat one-down. It’s hard to get mad with yourself losing to a player like him,” Perry laughed.
As for the upcoming match play rounds, Perry is upbeat about his chances.
“I’ve got a lot out of the last few days. A few more putts are dropping and I’ve got quite lot of confidence. It should be good.”
“I know its match play though, and everyone is out there for a reason. Who ever is better on the day wins.”
