Minjee Lee has vowed to “put on a show” in the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open next week.

Back in Australia after her first two tournaments as an LPGA Tour professional in North America, Lee said she was excited to try to go one better than her tie for 11th last year as an amateur.

“I’m very much looking forward to playing in the Open – my first event as a pro here in my home country,” Lee wrote on her blog today.

“I know there will be a ton of supports from family, friends and fans … (so) I will do my best to focus and hopefully put on a show for everyone on the golf course.”

Lee has pocketed more than $US36,800 in her first two weeks on the global tour, with her tie for 12th in Florida a fortnight ago followed up at the weekend with a tie for 27th at the Bahamas Classic.

“It’s nice to have completed my first two events as an LPGA rookie and while I do feel that I could have played better, I am happy with my overall performance and results,” Lee said.

“My golf was up and down for the week.  While the Bahamas is gorgeous and I did get some time to lay on the beach, we hit some bad weather and had a few suspensions of play.

“Conditions were difficult with high winds altering nearly every shot, but the course was very nice – quite a fun layout and it was in great condition.”

Lee, 18, finished last year’s Women’s Australian Open as the leading amateur despite a final-round 78 after she was joint third-round leader.

She finished just five shots adrift of champion Karrie Webb, but as the second placed Australia in the world-class field.
