Phil Mickelson held off a last-day charge from Brandt Snedeker to win the Phoenix Open by four shots in Scottsdale on Sunday as Greg Chalmers finished in a tie for 36th.

Mickelson birdied three of the last six holes to close out the tournament with a four-under-par 67 and ensure he ended with a record-tying 28-under total of 256 to seal his 41st PGA Tour title.

The 42-year-old laid the foundations for the wire-to-wire victory with a stunning round of 60 on Thursday and did not look back all weekend, shooting 65 on Friday and 64 on Saturday.

Snedeker ended the tournament in second place on 24-under after managing a six-under 65 on the final day.

Scott Piercy jumped up five spots thanks to a memorable round of 61 on Sunday to finish third, just one shot behind Snedeker.

Ryan Moore carded his second consecutive round of 65 to end on 22 under, while Ryan Palmer was three shots further back on 19-under for the tournament after a nine-under 62 launched him up 21 places on the leaderboard during the final day.

A group of three players comprising Bill Haas, Brendon de Jonge and Brendan Steele ended the tournament tied sixth on 18 under, with Matt Every and Padraig Harrington rounding out the top-ten a shot further back.

Greg Chalmers was the best-placed Australian in the field, tied 36th at 11 under.

Jason Day (tied 57th) and Aaron Baddeley (tied 65th) were the only other Australians to make the half-way cut.
