Entries are now open for the Australian Men’s and Women’s Amateur Championships to be played on Melbourne’s sandbelt at Commonwealth and Woodlands Golf Clubs from 15-20 January.
Once again, 216 men and 72 women will contest 36-holes stroke play qualifying, with the leading 64 men and 32 women to qualify for elimination match play.
Commonwealth Golf Club hosted the 1967 Australian Open won by Peter Thomson, as well as the 2010 and 2011 Women’s Australian Opens won by Yani Tseng, while Woodlands Golf Club has hosted State Open Championships and previous Australian Amateur Championships.
Players from all over Australia, plus Germany, New Zealand, Japan, England, Scotland, Korea and the USA will all contest the event.
The entry fee for 2013 includes two practice rounds, pull buggies and range balls, and lunch and drinks and fruit on-course for the championship days.
Both Championships date back to 1894 and both winners receive an exemption into their respective Australian Open.
Entries close at 5.00 pm AEDT on 18 December in order for the final field to be confirmed prior to Christmas. The handicap limit is 1.4 for men and 5.4 for women.
