Australian Men's & Women's Foursomes

4 March 2013

The Australian Men's and Women's Amateur Foursomes Championships are hosted by Riversdale Golf Club. The Men's and Women's Championships will be played in conjunction for the first time in 2013. Both events are open to players of all ages and are played over 36-holes Foursome Stroke Play. They preceed the Men's and Women's Riversdale Cups.

Although unsure of the official commencement of the Australian Women’s Amateur Foursomes Championship, records seem to suggest the event began in 1907. In 1959, a lady by the name of Lolita Marriott asked the Australian Ladies Golf Union (now Golf Australia) to accept a trophy in memory of her mother, who was an ardent supporter of Australian golf and an administrator at her home club of Yarra Yarra in Victoria.

Since that time, the winning pair in the Australian Women’s Amateur Foursome Championship has been awarded the Nance Marriott Salvers. Past winners include Karen Lunn, Alison Munt and Michelle Ellis.

The first Australian Men’s Amateur Foursomes Championship was played in 1899. Since 2005, the event has had a permanent home at Riversdale Golf Club. Past winners include Geoff Ogilvy, Nathan Green and James Nitties.
